High-flying Newcastle are stepping up their interest in Holland star Luuk de Jong.
And any approach for the Dutchman will not stop moves for top target Modibo Maiga in the January window.
Toon have made regular checks on FC Twente hotshot de Jong.
But Newcastle still retain their interest in 21-year-old de Jong- also regularly watched by Liverpool. De Jong was discovered by former England boss Steve McClaren during his time at Twente.
Dutch sources say Newcastle have made several trips to Holland this season to run the rule over the 6’ 2” striker, now regarded as one of the hottest properties in the Eredivisie.
An obvious stumbling block for Newcastle would be the fact that Twente value de Jong, who has just broken into the Holland senior side, in the £10-12million bracket at a time when they are ready to fork out on Maiga.

Luuk ist ein Bombenstürmer. Würde ihn sehr gerne in den Niederlanden behalten aber sollte er zu Newcastle oder Liverpool gehen, dass auch gut für seine Entwicklung. Zudem sind beide Vereine sehr sympathisch! Mir jedenfalls... :D

Zoals verwacht is direct na uitschakeling van het Nederlands elftal op het EK het spel van loven en bieden op FC Twente-spits Luuk de Jong op gang gekomen. Het Engelse Newcastle United heeft een openingsbod van 10 miljoen euro uitgebracht. De vraagprijs van FC Twente is 15 miljoen euro. Naar verwachting wil Newcastle United maximaal 12 miljoen euro uittrekken voor de getalenteerde spits. Ook van Benfica wordt snel een bod verwacht. Auch Sky Sports schreibt von einem 10 Mio Angebot der Magpies. Vielleicht ein möglicher Demba Ba Nachfolger, sollte dieser doch den Verein verlassen?

Sky Sports understands that a delegation from Newcastle United have arrived in Holland to open talks with FC Twente over Luuk de Jong and Douglas.
Newcastle have already seen one bid of €10million (£8million) for de Jong rejected by Twente and they have now reported to upped that to €12million (£10milion).
However, sources close to the deal have confirmed to Sky Sports that Twente are standing firm over de Jong and want in excess of €15million for the Dutch international striker.
